Ukraine Adoption

Program Guidelines

Eligibility

• Married couples
• Parents can be no more than 45 years older than the child.
• Couples must be married at least 2 years.
• At least one member of a couple must be a U.S. citizen.

Available Children

• Boys and Girls 5 years and older are available for adoption, sibling groups are also available but families have to be more flexible with age and gender.
• Children are in orphanages.
• It may be possible to adopt more than one child during the same trip.

Adoption Process

• The time this program takes from application through travel may be as short as 4-5 months.
• Families are required to register their child at the Ukrainian embassy and provide post-placement reports until the child is 18 years old.

Travel Requirements

• Both adoptive parents are required to travel for the initial meeting and must meet the child before beginning the legal process of adoption.  One spouse may return home after the court hearing.
• The average trip is approximately 23 days.
• Families are escorted through the process by English speaking guides.
• Families have the option of staying in hotels or apartments.
• Families may have their children accompany them on the trip.
